Reports earlier in the week had hinted that we will see a “killer” new feature form part of Apple’s new iOS 7 operating system that will debut on the iPhone 5S later this year. It is no secret that we are set to see changes on the software following the appointment of a new man to bring the aging platform up to date. It looks as though iOS is about to receive a major facelift and the man in charge of overseeing this is Sir Jony Ive, the Senior Vice President of Industrial Design at Apple. Last year news emerged of Ive’s new role in charge of redesigning iOS following the departure of Scott Forestall, the former Vice President of Software. Today news has emerged from the Wall Street Journal about what consumers can expect from iOS 7. Although no specific mention is given to features it does give us an idea about the direction the Apple are looking to take the software in. It is expected that the platform will arrive as part of the new iPhone 5S later on this year.
According to the Wall Street Journal iOS 7 is set to be “starker and simpler” than ever before. Ive’s background lies in physical design so it will be really interesting to see how his ideas translate into a software package. The new report states that iOS 7 will continue with Apple’s traditional minimalist design and that users can expect to see “clean edges” and “flat surfaces” making up the interface. It is also mentioned that Ive is keen to do away with the textured backgrounds which have featured on previous versions of the operating system. As we edge closer to the release of the iPhone 5S we expect to hear more news on exactly what iOS7 will offer in terms of features and functionality. It is expected that the model will get a release during Q3 this year, slightly earlier than when previous versions like the iPhone 5 have been launched.
We are expecting to see the new iPhone 5S arrive over the summer months complete with a bold new version of the popular iOS platform.
