Processor
Whilst the iPhone 5C sports Apple’s own designed A6 chip which was used in the iPhone 5, the iPhone 5S on the other hand features the new A7 chip with 64-bit architecture which offers 42x the processing power and graphics performance which is 53x that of the original iPhone, twice as fast as the A6. And with the M7 motion coprocessor that sits alongside the new A7 chip users will reap the benefits of access to an even wider range of motion controlled apps.
Operating Platform
Both devices will launch with Apple’s latest iOS 7 mobile OS software on board but coupled with the 64-bit A7 chip and the iPhone 5S introduces TouchID in to the mix – a fingerprint identity sensor built into the Home button. Apple iPhone 5 users however will have to wait until next week before they can pick up a software update for iOS 7.
Display
When it comes to displays, well both have a 4 inch widescreen multi touch retina display with a resolution of 11360 x 640 p and an image density of 326 ppi pixels per inch, making them pretty much a carbon copy of each other in that respect.
Camera
The iPhone 5S does offer the more superior iSight camera of the two, boasting 8 mega pixels with 1.5µ pixels, lower aperture, a True Tone flash instead of an LED flash and a sapphire crystal lens cover. When it comes to the HD FaceTime camera and HD video capture at 30 fps both handsets are evenly matched.
Memory
There will be an option between either a 16GB or 32GB version of the new iPhone 5S and 5C models however the iPhone 5S will also be available to buy with 64 GB of internal storage built-in. All model variants will come with microSD card expansion capabilities providing an additional 64 GB of storage.
Battery
Non-removable Li-Ion batteries have be used in both devices and will provide up to 10 hours talk-time (3G), 8 hours of internet browsing and usage (3G), 10 hours on LTE and on WiFi, as much as 40 hours of audio playback and last for as long as 250 hours on standby, despite the iPhone 5S technically having the bigger battery of the two.
Dimensions and Weight
The iPhone 5C is certainly the larger and heavier of the two phones measuring 124.4 x 59.2 x 8.97 mm and weighing 132 g in comparison to the iPhone 5S’s 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm and 112 g weight.
Design
Made from a single part of hard-coated polycarbonate the iPhone 5C is certainly eye-catching, with a range of 5 bold and vibrant colours to choose from (pink, blue, green, yellow and white) it couldn’t be further from the usual iPhone design that we have become accustomed. The iPhone 5S though is more in keeping with their trade mark iPhone build quality and overall look with the choice of 3 stunning metallic colour schemes from which to choose, space grey, silver and gold.
