The next generation iPhone is set to arrive later this summer in the shape of the new iPhone 5S. The model was originally set to be released earlier in the summer but delays have pushed the launch back to a more traditional time. The rumour mill has been going crazy with regards to this new phone and the latest to emerge suggests that the phone will include a brand new home button together with fingerprint scanning technology.
The latest news relating to the iPhone 5S suggest that the model will include a Sapphire coated capacitive home button which is also capable of scanning fingerprints. The news originated on a Taiwanese website and TechNews have picked up on it. According to the report the impressive sounding Sapphire coating is necessary to enable the fingerprint scanner to work to its full potential. A translation of the original story was made by Cult Of Mac and a segment of it reads “Apple is expected to do away with the traditional physical home button, which has long been one of the most unreliable components on iOS devices. It’s thought that using sapphire crystal, which has a hardness second only to diamond, will prevent the button from getting scratched and ruining the fingerprint sensor”.
For over six years the physical Home button on iPhone devices has been one of the most iconic parts of the devices but on the flip side of the coin the button is also one of the most unreliable aspects of the model. After prolonged usage the button has a tendency to cease working hence why Apple are looking to include a different version on the new iPhone 5S. The reliability of this latest rumour is still unknown. Dozens of stories are currently doing the rounds in relation to this model and the majority of them will prove to be incorrect. There does seem however to be some credibility to this latest rumour. Apple are known to be developing fingerprint technology and will also be keen to eradicate the problems caused by the physical Home key. A new capacitive key incorporating fingerprint technology seems the way forward and could feature on the new 5S.
The iPhone 5S is set to be released later this year and followed by the iPhone 6 in 2014. The exact specification of the model is not known but it does seem likely that a redesigned Home button could feature and Apple will also be keen to include their latest fingerprint scanning technology on the device .
